Show CLEAN THE GAR THIS SHU Spring cleaning for the automobilo will play an important part in its satisfactory sat-isfactory operation during the summer. sum-mer. One of tho most profitable things which an automobile owner may do at this time of the year is to thoroughly clean his car. By this is not meant a mere washing and polishing polish-ing of the body. That may help the appearance of the car and every motorist mo-torist who cares will do that anyway. What Is meant Is a painstaking cleaning clean-ing of the moving parts of oil holes nn.l .nrnvunlro n n i rll 1 .1 rl V tllP P.rank- uuu ivtid j-fn case. In the spring there is in the oil that has been in use in the crankcase all winter even though often replenished, a very considerable amount of sediment sedi-ment and grit, and this in spite of tho quality of oil that has been used. Dust and dirt is actually breathed into tho crankcase and should be removed if the autoist cares to prolong the life of his car. For the owner who likes to putter around his own car a profit-returning job can be laid out that will take probably less than-an hour and will add many months to the life of tho motor. Drain off the old oil from the crankcase and then put a quart or more of kerosene in it. With the starter or the crank turn tho engine .over several times with the Ignition Ishut off. The more times the engine en-gine is turned over, the more thorough tho cleaning. The kerosene should now be thoroughly drained off. It is woll to leave the drain open for several sev-eral minutes after the flow has stopped to insure that all tho kerosene possible has left the crankcaso. This same cleaning may be clone at any good garage if the owner prefers. The next important thing is to fill the crankcase with fresh motor oil. With the advent of warmer weather this, may be a grade heavier than has been used during tho winter. Then when the engine Is turned loose, It will have surprising new vim and will purr like a contented kitten. |
