J Iiy Norma 11 Ji. Brown Has Jimmy Dunn hopes of knock-, ing from Johnny Kilbane's head the! featherweight crown he 2lolnod t0 place thereon? f ' . Maybe. Look like it, anyhow. We don't mean that Jimmy Is planning plan-ning on stepping into the ring himself him-self against the king, but Well, here's the how; Dunn, as most CoUV.knowL.plcked up Johnny when Kilbane was a .slck-( ly lad hanging around Dunn's stable,; and turned Johnny into a feather-j weight champion. He steered Ivilbane Ivil-bane through the seasons that fol-j lowed his victory over-Abe Atoll un- til last year. Then Dunn and the, champ had a falling out over a per-: sonal matter not connected with the ring game In any way. Kilbane. since that time, has been; uddling his own canoe and has been, fighting frequently In the east. Dunn! has been devoting his time to the, rest of his stablo. One of the leading members of that stable is Alvie; Miller. Lorain. O.. boy. ' ' Miller Is not a newcomer In the feather ranks. He has fought many of the best boys and Has had two cracks at Kilbane, He is a clever lad with a good wallop, and his supporters sup-porters have , had him headed for the title se'veral times! Since Dunn has taken him In tow the .Lorain boy has Improved greatly. Now Miller has been signed up for a ten-round no-declslon bout with Kilbane at Lorain April 21. Being a no-decislon battle, the bout doesn't assume great Importance as would a real title contest. But should Miller-drop Miller-drop the champ or outpoint him there'll be a cry for a decision contest. con-test. It's a good bet that Dunn wouldn't send Miller against Johnny if, he knew that Miller might suffer from the results. Miller first met Kilbane at Cedar Point in 1915 and most of the critics gave Kilbane a shade. Somo gave Alvie a draw. The following season the pair fought twelve rounds at Y'oungstown and Kilbane won easily, dropping Miller In the fourth round. Only' Miller's gameness pulled him through the twelve cantos. In view .of the existing .conditions the bout, promoted by "Chief Kelly,"" Lorain flro fighter, ought to be a bummer. |
