The budget, as made out by Miss Lee, calls for an overcoat for ?28 to last three years, one suit at ?2S.S2, an extra pair of trousers, ?1.S7; two pairs of overalls, $3.95; two light shirts i $3.75; four colored shirts, $1.72; two pairs of shoes, $13.23. with $3.30 for repairs; re-pairs; one pair rubbers, $1.42; eight pairs socks; two heavy union suits, $3.14; three light ones. This family pays $50 a month house rent and $60 covers the cost of food in the home, with $45 for outside meals. A common laborer earning $130 a month has a wife and seven children to support. House rent costs $25. The food estimate is $88 in the home and $S outside. The clothing is divided into $6 a month for the husband, $5 for the wife, and $41.66 for the seven children. |
