That was way back in 1910. i Aided by one of his father's crack: "race" horrcs, Creed developed fast., The horse by the way, was used to. pace the star around a half mile track, in two years, Haymond won the. high j school title In both events. The third ( year, he established records which will probably stand for some time, doing the hundred in 10 flat and the furlong in 20 flat As a representative of the Ogden A. A., Haymond should make the best in the world step in the 220-yard event! One of his most remarkable feato was! his performance at the "U" in 1915 In three straight wcoks he shattered the world's record on a curve track in! the 220-yard dash. His mark in this event still stands. Haymond won the intercollegiate championship in the two sprints last year and was the win-; ner of the 220 honors in 1918. In thej high school state meet in 191-1 he hopped the last twenty yards in the furlong after tearing a ligament nndj won with ease. 4 j Haymond's complete records: 1910 Won 100 and 220-yard dashes in division meet at Springvllle, winning win-ning both. In the state meet he failed to place. 1911 Won the 100 In 10.3 and 220-yard 220-yard dash in 23 seconds in division meet. In state meet broke state records rec-ords In both events, doing hundred iu 10.2 furlong in 22.2. 1912 Won 100 and 220 yard dash in dual meet with Heber. Also won low hurdles, broad jump, 440-yard dash and second in shot put. Won 100 in 10 wlat in division meet and also 220-yard dash. Won both events In state meet 1913 First in 100, 220 and 440-yard dashes in division meet. Stepped 440 in 51.1. In the state meet broke both of his own records in sprints 100 yards 10 flat and 220 in 22 flat. At Chicago, second in 100-yard dash, tlmA 9 4-5 sec onds. 1914 Dual meet at Salt Lake, won hundred and furlong from Peterson. Following week won same events against B. Y. U. In the state meet won both events, hundred In 10 flat and 220 in 22 flat. At Denver, second sec-ond to Cline in both 100 and 220-yard events. Member of "U" record breaking break-ing relay team. 1915 Dual meet at Provo won both sprints. At Logan, following week, lost 100-yard to Peterson anuV broke world's circular track record In 220 yards, 21.2 seconds In state meet again won 100 and 220 events. Eroke world's record in 220 again, 21 1-5 seconds. sec-onds. At Denver the following week he won the 100 and 220-yard events from Cline, doing the latter event in world record time. He won the re-Jay re-Jay from Cline for Utah by doing the tinal quarter in 49 seconds. At San Francisco third in 100 and second in 220 in Far Western championships. 1916 No contests, not in school. 1917 Freshman at Penn, relay meets only. 1918 In Penn games won 100 and 220'yard dnsn ovents. Won same events against navy men. At Baltimore, won indoor intercollegiate intercolle-giate 100 championship, time 10.1. In the intercollegiate championships he finished second in hundred. Won 2201 21,3 All-American furlong runner , 1919 Captain of Penn team. Member Mem-ber of winning indoor relay teams at Buffalo and Madison Square Garden. Member of Mid-Atlantic championship relay team. Dual meet agahist navy, first in both sprints. 10 flat and 22 flat. Member of American Triangular" meet at New York, Dartmouth, Columbia, Colum-bia, Penn. won both sprints, 10 flat-In flat-In intercolleglates won both sprints, 10 flat In century and 21.3 In furlong. Two timers caught Haymond at 21 flat. In the Meadowbrook games, Haymond Hay-mond was member of famous Penn relay re-lay team,, which shattered several world's records. The team was composed com-posed of Sherni Landers. Creed Haymond, Hay-mond, Fred Davis, and Elmer Smith. Four world's records were shattered. The new records being: 800 meters, 1.2G; 880 yards, 1.2C.2; 440-yard relay, 43.2 seconds; 400 meters, 43.4 seconds. In the 440-yard relay, each man av eraged 9 and' 7-10 seconds to the hund-j red. I |
