Show Handcart Pioneer, Aged Honored A birthday party was held Friday at tho home of Mr. and Mrs. Scott W. Campbell in North Ogden in honor ofi Mrs. Alice Walsh Strong, a handcart' pioneer of the ill-fated Edward Martin company of 1856. Mrs. Strong reached her 91st birthday on April 17 and her1 friends and relatives met to partlcir-to in conversation, music and refresh menls and to wish her many happy returns re-turns of the day. t Among the Intimate friends present was Augustus Curtlus of Santa Ana, Cal., who a short time ago sent tho aged lady a large box containing 91 beautiful calla lilies to commomorati the number of years she has lived. Another feature of the occasion was the reading of an appropriate birthday poeni, composed in her honor by ilu officers of the Salt Lake chapter of the Daughters of the Handcart Pioneers. Among those present werr Mrs Sarah Swift and Mrs. Louis Condie and children of Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs'Scott W. Campbell. Mr. and Mrs, Harold S. Campbell, Mr. and Airs Clyde W. Campbell, Augustus Curtius or Santa Ana, Cal., John Walsh and . Arlie S. Campbell, son and grandson of Mrs. Strong, both of whom havo recently re-cently returned from missionary work in California; Mrs. John Walsh and grandson of Farmington. |
