Show r Present Title Holder Expects to Retire Undefeated; Praises Dundee By BENNY LEONARD I expect to retire from the boxing Hj game aftr another ye?r. providing some boxer does not defeat nie before Hj that time. I always liave hoped to re-tire re-tire undefeated, but before 1 do I will clve every contender a chance to wir -the title. 1 know that in my climb to the lop I always wanted to mix with the ttile holder and for that reason I am going to see that the callengers ge. Hl their opportunities. " At the conclusion of my picture work 1 will go into training. When 1 Ym in good shape I will start boxing and the boys can have the opportuu.-ties opportuu.-ties they have been awaiting. I believe that Johnny Dunce js the best of the challengers. He can hit, has science, moves quickly and thinks quicky. Johnny is getting along in Hl , years, but he is a capable boy. I would like to meet him in a fifteen round fight. He isn't a knockout artist, but H no carries around a wallop just the same. Lew Tendler is a great fighter. Hi Hl is effective because he is a southpaw.-'He southpaw.-'He is not the cleverest man in the world but he is dangerous. Tendler has a peculiar style of milling. I have never met him, but would welcome the ' Hl opportunity to face him in a long bout. I know that he can punch, but believe 1 can fathom his style. In training fl uould have a southpaw sparring part-Hj part-Hj 1er and thereby get onto the style. Willie Jackson is coming to the Hl front. He Is a hard, hitting lightweight jwith a bit of speed and a good cool J Jead. He knows the boxing same and i nas been achieving quite a bit of sue--cess. Ho is a clean cut manly fellow and one who will give tle boys 1 loi ,tp think about If he cr.ttinues to im--prove he will be one of the most im-f.ortant im-f.ortant challengers for llio tile There is Joe Welling, Joe Ecnjami.i and Ritchie Mitchell. Welling is n good boy. Benjamin is just a youngster and 4s sure to improve, while Mitchell is making quite a name for himself in the middle west Within six months' time there snould be several other star lightweights on the horizon. The boys who were taught boxing in the army and navy v.-ere capable and I believe that soon Tome of them will spring into the linie- 1 The public deserves action and at the completion of my picture, I will give all the above named boys their dance, including any others tha. H lVi'ght develop. I hope to "retire unde-fcated, unde-fcated, but one can never tell. |
