Show salvation in supplying the vast needs of commerce for fuel oils, lubricants, gasoline, gas-oline, etc. "If we wish to stimulate our metal mining stock market; if we wish to encourage en-courage capital lo come in here and supply sup-ply the sinews of industrial expansion, the one gTeat need now Is to keep our goods on display and advertise them, so that when the tension of the world war for humanity relaxes our 'captains of industry' in-dustry' will know where to come to for what they want and must have." RISE DUE FOR MB MARKET Prices Dragging Bottom, Says Broker; Predicts an Early Return to Normal. Despite the many depressing1 influences brought to bear in recent months and the response of the market to those influences, influ-ences, leading brokers who have made a close study of conditions are confident that prices are now at rock bottom and are predicting bullish activities with a minimum of encouragement. In the depressions mines, with the exception ex-ception of some of the more prominent coppers, have suffered more, probably, than any other Issues, but with the heavy demand for metals and minerals in war preparations and the stabilizing of prices, it appeai-s to be the general opinion that a decided reaction is due. With reference to the market outlook, more especially mines, y. H. Child of the brokerage firm of Y. H. Child & Co. gave out the following fol-lowing statement yesterday: "There is no question in my mind but what metal mining stccks in the local market are dragging bottom. From every indication, liquidation has run its course. Stocks coming out around prevailing low levels are only those held by interests which, for particular reasons, must realize cash for urgent needs. That is a feature of the market that is generally conceded, so that the only logical thing to expect is that when the nation's requirements as a result of war necessities becomes less urgent a return to at least normal conditions condi-tions must quickly follow. And that means that the level of mining slock prices will range from 100 to 500 per cent higher than they are today. "With silver selling at practically SI an ounce, with lead at $7 per hundred, zinc at $6.75, and with copper certain to hold above 2:i cents per pound, there is every encouragement to buy metal mining stocks now and to hold them for the long pull. It is fully realized and appreciated that metal mining and the development of metal mining properties is now being conducted under conditions that seem discouraging; dis-couraging; that many companies are under un-der necessity of keepings things moving by the assessment process, a nd tha t developed, de-veloped, prodr ring mines are mailing under un-der reefed sales and cu rtalled earnings. Rut that cannot be helped. "Everybody Is I willingly bearing fucIi inconveniences, firm in the faith thn t everything is -for the best: that It is first our country and our country's cause ; that fro-n the shadows we shall soon emerge into the sunlight of world freedom and a greater era of prosperity than the United States has ever known. "Even now, with a prospect that it may be many months before the war situation clears, it is a noticeable fact that new disclosures in mines and prospects have a tendency to strengthen the market in such shares, and news of a favorable character char-acter is being looked for and noted with more and more interest and enthusiasm. To me, this is a certain evidence that public interest is not lacking and tha t when the time arrives a strong bull market mar-ket will develop. "It seems to me that now, right now. is the time to exert our best efforts in educating the world to the fact that right here in Utah we have undeveloped resources re-sources of greater potentiality than probably prob-ably any state in the Union. We have great mines of copper, of silver, of lead and zinc, coal, manganese and iron. We have untold values tied up in our mines of uranium, gold and other precious metals, met-als, to say nothing of the billions of tons of oil-bearing shales and reefs of petroleum petro-leum saturated sands the operation of 1 which is destined to prove the country's |
