Show NEW RECORD MADE IN BUILDING VESSEL Steel Collier Tuckahoe Is Practically Finished in Only 27 Days. WASHINGTON7, May 4. What is declared to be a new world's record for shipbuilding will be established tomorrow to-morrow in the launching of the 5500-ton 5500-ton steol collier Tuckahoe at the plant of the New York Shipbuilding company, Camden, N. J., in less than ono month from the time the keel was laid. If the ship goes into the water at 10:30 a. m., as planned, it will mean that in twenty-seven days, tvso hours and fifty minutes a vessel has been added to the American merchant marine, ma-rine, practically condetc' in every detail. de-tail. Completion of the vessel in so short a time is regarded by shipping board officials as one of the most remarkable remark-able industrial achievements in history. his-tory. The Tuckahoe will take her place under the flag forty-one days ahead of time. Miss Helen Hurley, daughter of Chairman Hurley of the shipping board, will celebrate her twelfth birthday birth-day by christening the Tuckahoe. Mr. Hurley and Director General Schwab of the emergency fleet corporation will make speeches. The Tuckahoe is 330 feet long, fifty feet beam, and will have a speed of ten and a half knots. |
