Show fslT DOUGLAS WILL HAVE WMMU Surgical Dressings Quarters to Be Opened Next Tuesday. JUNIOR WORK ACTIVE Children of Primary Association Asso-ciation Donate Beautiful Flags. Official announcement was made yesterday yes-terday at local headquarters of the American Eed Cross to the effect that a new gauzeroom would be established this week at Fort Douglas. It is fitted and equipped in the building known as quarters No. 10 and will be open Tuesdays Tues-days from 1:30 until 5 p. m. and on Thursdays from 9 a. m. until 5 p. m. The new room will be in charge of Mjiss Helen Duryea, formerly assistant . -chairmau of surgical dressings of the Bronxville branch, West Chester chap- ' ter, New York. Miss Duryea will be assisted by Mrs. W. G. Allen and Mrs. H. 0. Phillips. The nnique feature about this new gauzeroom will lie in the fact that it will furnish all of its own gauze and then turn the completed surgical dressings over to the receiving department of the Salt Lake county chapter. This addition will make a total of forty-three gauzerooms now in active operation in the county, and it is, anticipated antici-pated that if the supply of gauze holds out the record of work for the month of May will far surpass all previous ; attainments in the county which have I heretofore been well in excess of the ; required quota. Junior Red Cross. Beginning tomorrow, the West Junior i High school will mako a four-day drive for memberships in the Junior Bed Cross, with the purpose of forming a i Red Cross auxiliary. An efficient organization organ-ization for the campaign has been effected. ef-fected. The school has been listed in three divisions red, white and blue each division having it own officers, who report to rhe soliool heads. The drive will begin Monday with the special feature of a Bed Cross programme, pro-gramme, under the direction of Miss Helen Greenwood and Miss Marie Grab. The history of the R Cross and Bed Cross demonstration .will be Combers of special interest. Tho drive will close -with an exhibit of war pictures, pic-tures, curios and other matters relating relat-ing to Utah boys who are now serving Uncle Sam on land, sea and in the air. This portion of the programme will be under the direction of Miss Beatrice Bancroft, art director of the West Junior High school. Announcement was also made yesterday yester-day that a Hod Cross store for the ban-1 dling of salvage would he opened in tho Civic Center building in Becent street. This will be under the direction of Mrs. Charles S. Burton, who may be reached at the store phone. Wasatch 9067, or at her home phone, Wasatch SS64. Red Cross Shop. One of the most important announcements announce-ments made in connection with the work of the local chapter is the organization of a Bed Cross shop for handling salvage. sal-vage. The jumble store, as it has been called, will be opened at 149 Regent street. This location was chosen for the reason, it is said, that it is near the civic center and the municipal market. At a meeting yesterday the following were appointed a committee to take charge of the new store: Mrs. H. N. Byrne, Mrs. Charles Burton, Mrs. Simon Bamberger, Mrs. A. H. S. Bird, Mrs. John F. Cowan, Mrs. Johu C. Dalv, Mrs. W. Mont Ferry, Mrs. W. W. Fleetwood, Mrs. Lester D. Freed, Mrs. George S. Gannet, Mrs. George Lawrence, Mrs. C. H. McMahan, Mrs. John Malick, Mrs. George Miller, Mrs. C. W. Nibley, Mrs. W. W. Biter, Mrs. D.- C. Roberts, Mrs. F. C. Schramm and Mrs. John D. Spencer. Spen-cer. Mrs. Freed was selected chairman; Mrs. Fleetwood, secretary; Mrs. Miller, business manager; Mrs. Schramm, publicity pub-licity agent, and Mrs. Burton and Mrs. Roberts, collectors. Old clothing, shoes, jewelry and anything any-thing that is tucked away and found unusable will be accented at the Red Cross store. A meeting to perfect plans for the shon will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 at the shop rooms. Children Donate Flags. Two beautifully worked. Afghan flags, knitted by the children of the Primary association of the Mormon church, were yesterday presented to the local chapter. chap-ter. One is the national banner, with its stars embroidered, the other a giant Red Cross flag, with a great red cross worked in the center, with small crosses above and below. Both are hanging in conspicuous places in the local headquarters head-quarters building. In addition to the large amount of finished work turned in Friday, the Mid-vale Mid-vale branch yesterday augmented its contribution by sending in forty-six suits of pajamas, eleven surgeon 's gowns and twelve bed shirts.
