At the top, left, Robert E.; right, Fred G.; at the bottom, left, Carl N.; right, Frank G. ; ' M : ( J M Michels Boys of Salt Lake Take Out Policies Which Total $50,000. i THE value of government life in-'siiranee in-'siiranee issued on enlisted men of the navy is fully appreciated by four Salt Lakers from one family, fam-ily, now in the navy, who have taken out an aggregate of $30,000 worth of protection to be paid their mother in case anything happens to them during the war. These boys are the sons of J. R. Michels of 1448 Major avenue and grandsons of George and Mary Ashby Stringman. Robert E. Michels, 25 years of age, who attended the Logan Agricultural college, first enlisted in 1912 and re-enlisted re-enlisted in 1916. During his first period pe-riod he was four years in the Pacific, three on the cruiser Maryland and one on the H-2 submarine. He is an electrician. elec-trician. During his second enlistment to date he has been on the Atlantic ocean as chief electrician aboard the U. S. S. L-5. Fred G. Michels, 23 years of age, enlisted en-listed in 1912 and re-enlisted in 1916. He also was a student at the Agricultural Agricul-tural college. During his first enlistment enlist-ment he was a gunner's mate aboard the Maryland. During his second enlistment en-listment he has been at school a year at Newport, R. I., studying torpedo work and deep sea diving and aboard the U. S. S. G-3 at a submarine base. Carl N. Michels, 21 yea0 of age, also attended the Agricultural college. He enlisted in 1916. He is a first-class fireman and has gone with his ship through the Panama canal to ports on the Atlantic coast of South America. Prank G. Michels, 19 years of age, enlisted en-listed in 1917 and went to school at Mare island, Cal. He, is aboard the submarine sub-marine chaser U. S. S. 274, with the second division in Pacific coast service. ser-vice. He attended Granite high school before joining the navy. |
