Show BIRTHS FAR EXCEED DEATHS FOR WEEK . The weekly report of the city board of health, issued yesterday, shows more than two and one-half times as many births as deaths during the week just ended. Births numbered eighty-nine, as against thirty-five deaths. That the war is having little influence upon the birth ratio is proven by the fact that births for the week are but two less than during the corresponding period of last year. Contagious and infectious diseases numbered 272 cases, as follows: Whooping Whoop-ing cought, 178; mumps, 21; measles, 20; scarlet fever, 19; chickenpox, 18; smallpox, 10; German measles, 4, and diphtheria, 2. |
