THE swimming team of the University Univer-sity of Utah is one of the classiesl organizations that has represented the Crimsuu in recent years. The men have practiced diligently under un-der the Instruction of Professor E. Mailings Mai-lings of the university and their caplain, George Nelson. Nelson is one of the best swimmers seen in Utah for ninn.v years. He is the 440-yard champion of the Intermountain country. Aside from the speed contests, he can easily hold his own with the best of the diving men. 'Nelson is a graduate of the L. D. S. university of the class of 1917. He Is in the engineering school of the university. univer-sity. Ralph Gray needs no introduction to the followers of the Crimson athletes. Ho was the quarterback of the freshman football team last fall and later, in the basketball season, he was a regular mem-bcr mem-bcr of the squad. In the water he is equally good. He swims the twenty-yard dash, fne breast-stroke races and also competes In the diving events. Clarence Wacolng is another of the water stars of the varsity. Wareing Is also utw to the Crimson sports, having entered school at midyear. He is a fast swimmer and also a diver. Vern Halliday represents the "U" In the breast swims and is a member of the relay team. |
