Show 'TDURSSEP1 OiSCUSSES RECKLESS DRIVING Many Accidents Last Year Due to Carelessness of Motorists, He Says. I VTith the approach of the open touring season the attention cf motorists is called to the numerous accidents which occurred in Utah last year and which in a great many instances were due to carelessness or recklessness of the driver, according to A. E. Toursen, manager of the Randall-rodd Randall-rodd Auto company. "Fatalities and serious injuries to motorists mo-torists at railway crossings arouse the most attention of any class of accidents, because in nearly every case it is known that such accidents are preventable." said Tourssen yesterday. "For precisely this reason they ive tne best opportunity for putting in effect practical safety first measures and emphasize that these must depend on the co-operation of motorists for their enforcement. "The gradual decrease in such accidents acci-dents which is taking place is an evidence that motorists are becoming more and more careful in their a riving. Another thing that helps is the greater flexibility of operation of the modern motor, preventing prevent-ing stalling, the high efficiency of brakes, gripping quality of tires, enabling quick stops to be made. "But the one safe bet is not to approach ap-proach a crossing without looking both ways and listening and having the car under absolute control. The wigwag signal sig-nal has saved many a motorist from risk and doubtless if motonsts would show an interest, the crossings not alreay protected pro-tected by this device would soon receive this protection." |
