Show LETCHITZKY MADE COMMANDER ON CENTRAL FRONT PETKOGRAD. March 24, via London, 6 p. m. General Alexei Evert has been replaced by General Letehitzky as commander com-mander of the Russian army on the central cen-tral front. General Letehitzky -was in command of the extreme southern wing of the armies on tho Russian front during General Gen-eral Brussiloff's offensive early last summer. It was his force which drove the Austro-Hungnrians out of Czerno-witz Czerno-witz and subsequentlv cleared Bukowina of hostile troops. Afterward he participated partici-pated in the drive northward in Gali-cia Gali-cia towards Stanislau. During the offensive of-fensive his troops were credited with taking more than 80,000 prisoners. General Evert, who late in 1915 was appointed to the command of the Russian Rus-sian armies in the west, is a veteran of the Russo-Turkish and Russo-Japan wars. He distinguished himself in the operations around Lublin early in the present war. General Evert 's command took in the middle section of the Russian front, with General Russki commanding the i northern sector and General Ivanoff the I southern. |
