Though in business but three years, the Sunset Color works, with offices and salesrooms at 235 South State street, bids fair to become" one of the largest concerns in this industry in the west. This concern, of which William Carter of Wanship, Utah, is president, achieved considerable fame when it succeeded in securing the contract for practically all of the paint used in the decorating of the capitol of Utah, including the waterproofing water-proofing of the outside dome and the Caen stone finish on the inside. This, in the face of the fact that many eastern east-ern houses sought the business. The Sunset Color works, which will in time be one ox the largest concerns of its kind in the United States, manufactures manu-factures mixed paints, varnishes, dry colors and putty. The plant is located at Ninth North street. It has a peculiar pe-culiar advantage over eastern competitors competi-tors in that it owns its mines at Pay-son, Pay-son, Brigham City and Tooele. Its black shale mine is one of the largest in the United States, and contains millions mil-lions of tons blocked out and used for making black and green graphite and roof paints, with mortar color, etc. The capacity of the plant in Salt Lake is five tons daily, and it is now running full time. One of the specialities of the Sunset Color works is high-grade varnish particularly par-ticularly adapted to the carriage and automobile trade. |
