Preliminary ' I I steps are now being taken in J th's c'tjr to Prove a D0W j modern armory of sufficient size I to accommodate both troop B, the I unit which saw service at the border, I and also the new troop K. For the I present troop B will share its Twenty- i fourth street quarters with the mem- bers of the new unit. The personnel of troop K as in- i spected by Colonel J. B. Webb. , Additional men will be transferred from other troops to the new unit. The official inspection of -new troop I ' K was made by Colonel McDonald on February 5 last and it is understood I that recognition of the unit by the war department will date from that time, I the men to receive their pay from the i date of inspection. Troop K consists of i nearly seventy enlisted men, many of whom are well known young business men of this city. ' The organization of the second car-' car-' airy unit for Ogden took place within . two months, the recruiting having been 1 started last December, and the credit I for the enlistments as well as the train-I ft w If V W j K , i 1 1- Z-JV- '- ) ing of the men to bring about the official of-ficial recognition is largely due Captain Cap-tain War As a former batteryman in the national guard of Nebraska Mr. Ward was well qualified to take charge of the organization of the troop and bring it up to a standard of efficiency which brought a favorable report from the United States army inspector. "While the officers of the new troop have not yet received their commissions, commis-sions, it is regarded as almost certain that Mr. "Ward will be named captain, J. W. Farley, first lieutenant, and Roscoe Ros-coe C. Glasmann, second lieutenant. Equipment for the new troop, consisting consist-ing of arms, ammunition, uniforms and horses, has been ordered for several weeks and is expected to arrive at any time. |
