Show EVANGELISTS WILL VISIT JAIL INMATES Thomas Griffin and Wife Help Prisoners Prison-ers to Get New Start in Life. Thomas Griffin and wife, the prison evangelists, will visit the county jail at 10:30 this morning to hold services for the prisoners. Thev will visit the city jail Thursday afternoon at 3:30. Thomas Griffin is well known throughout through-out the country as "The Happy Irishman." Irish-man." He has been doing evangelical work throughout the United States for me last eleven 3'ears. tie was superintendent superin-tendent of one of the largest rescue missions in the world at Chicago, 111. Mr. Griffin has been in Salt Lake for the last two months, holding services ser-vices regularly in the. jails and assisting assist-ing prisoners who have finished their sentences to get a new start in the world. In all his travels during the last fifteen fif-teen years over America and parts of England, said Mr. Griffin, he had never found a jail in such a sanitary condition condi-tion as the county jail in Salt Lake. He declared it was due in part to the efficiency ef-ficiency of Sheriff John S. Corless and the chief jailor, George E. Cleveland. Mr. Griffin's headquarters are in Harmony hall, 323 South State street. Any cast-off clothing will be received at this place. |
