A dispatch dis-patch from the Bohemian city which also is the home of the Skoda guns reports that the breweries have been closed and will not be opened again until peace returns. The barley and corn formerly used for brewing purposes are needed to make bread for the starving population, and it is expected that the orewing industry indus-try will have to shut down completely throughout the dual monarchy. It was expected that at least some of the breweries could be kept in operation op-eration with the grain captured in Rumania, Ru-mania, but the government announces that the transportation of the Rumanian wheat and maize stocks cannot be undertaken un-dertaken on a large Bcale before next month, because all cars and locomotives of the railroads are needed for military purposes and the Danube, which Is still filled with ice, will not be navigable before the middle of April. |
