Show MANY ROOKS CALLED, BUT FEW ARE CHOSEN By International News Service. NEW YORK, March 24. With the major ma-jor league clubs preparing to leave their southern training camps, fans throughout through-out the country are Interested In the struggle that has been made by the "rookies" for regular jobs in the majors this spring. In all, the sixteen big time clubs have tried out 160 to 170 recruits, an average of ten or twelve per club. Of this num-r ber very few will make good, but there are several who stand out as "finds." Pitcher Middleton from Louisville and Joe Wagner, inflelder from Montreal, have apparently earned regular berths with the Giants. Inflelder Knaupp is tlie only recruit sure of a place with the Yankees. The Robins have Laverne Fabrique, a shortstop, and Hickman, an outfielder, who ere practically sure to stick. A number of other youngsters now with Greater New York teams will be brought north before the season opens, but the players mentioned are the best , brts nnrovered by McGraw, nono'an and ' linliln.on. |
