The American legation received notice todav that the American consuls who were left in Germany when Am-bassador Am-bassador Gerard departed will arrive in Switzerland via Sehaffhausen Tuesday Tues-day afternoon. It is expected that a large number of American residents in Germany will arrive with them. The American consuls were left behind be-hind because the amabassador was unable un-able to communicate with them or because be-cause they needed more time in which to settle up their affairs. The other Americans were unable to have their passports viseed in ' time' to leave with the ambassador. GENEVA, via Paris, Feb. 17, 4:35 a,, m. Many Americans who have been living in Germany a.re reported to be waiting near Singen and Constance for permission to cross the frontier into .Switzerland. It is reported from Schaffhausen that onlv a few Americans, Ameri-cans, have entered Switzerland from Germany since Ambassador Gerard and his party arrived at Berne. The Swiss and Spanish ministers at Berlin are said to be giving every assistance in their power to the Americans still in Germany. Ger-many. . Considerable financial loss has been suffered by those Americans who have already reached Switzerland. One hundred hun-dred marks, which before the war were worth 12o francs, are now valued at only S3 francs!
