Show mim to discuss CHR1STIANEDUGATIDN Campaign in Interest of Westminster College Will Get Benefit. In the Interest of Christian education many ministers throughout the city today to-day will take up the time of the morning's service with a discussion of matters connected con-nected with Institutions of higher learning. learn-ing. The campaign now on in the interest of Westminster college will be benefited very much by a presentation of the situation connected, with the college. As it is a Christian institution the Christian people peo-ple of the city will find the morning serv-ices serv-ices of unusual interest to them. In connection with the campaign now being waged to raise $100,000 this year for the benefit of the Westminster college col-lege fund, H. E. Sweitzer said 5-ester-day: One pf the finest traits In human nature fs the desire to help. A lady from Chicago interested in students who are unable to secure an education educa-tion without some assistance wrote Dr. Reherd concerning a girl student stu-dent who wants to attend school. Westminster secures help for such students. Employment is given them in payment for tuition, and many times a position Is obtained through friends. Thus where only a portion of the day is required for the work a student can earn a large part of his expenses and yet keep up his studies. There are many students who want an education and are good scholars, but have no means. Only SKi(V will endow a permanent scholarship, schol-arship, and the income from It will take care of the school expenses each year for some worthy student. A woman from Chicago, although with limited means, has offered to help. She says in her letter to President Pres-ident Reherd: "The Continent came this morning, and I have Just read of the poor Italian girl who wants an education. The fact that she is a Christian makes a strong appeal to me. and I will be very anxious to learn of her future. I wish I could help in a substantial wav toward her education, but my tithe is very heavily heav-ily pledged to my own church, and the very large number of other calls that are constantly made. However, If this girl comes to your college, and her expenses are not paid in full, let me know, and I will send you a few dollars to help her. I did not receive re-ceive a college (or even high school education), and I know what a drawback draw-back it Is." Another poor girl is struggling to prepare herself for missionary work. Last summer she herded sheep to earn money for her school work. To help such young people ought to be considered con-sidered a good investment by Christian Chris-tian men of means. Twenty $1000 , scholarships could be used at once. Who will help? The workers who go out to solicit the intensive campaign for $100,000 and those who contribute are encouraged en-couraged to do all they can to help those who not only need it but are worthy to receive help. Ignorance Is immensely more costly cost-ly than college training. The stability sta-bility of our government is in the Christian education and moral convictions con-victions of its citizens. Society, the state and the church exists for man. He is the greatest asset of all. What an opportunity is here offered for the richest and noblest investment. |
