Show UNEXPECTED HOGS SOLVE A PROBLEM Bavarian Town Is Relieved of Meat Scarcity by Two Hundred Fat Pigs, MUNICH", Feb. 17. The meat question ques-tion has unexpected' been solved for a considerable time in the Bavarian village of Schleithal, near Ludwigshafen. In a curious way the authorities of the town recently came into the possession of more than two hundred fat hogs. The animals will be killed &s they are needed to supply the poorer classes with pork. The food commission of the district learned that a number of farmers bad raised more pigs than were reported bv them. An investigation was ordered, but before the investigators reached the village the farmers, to escape punishment, punish-ment, drove their unreported hogs, over two hundred in all, into a nearby forest. The animals roomed about several days, but they were finally discovered by the investigators, who had them rounded up and driven into a large barn. The fear of heavy laws for their violation vio-lation of the food laws prevented the owners of the pigs from claiming their property. The commission ordered the confiscation of the porkers and turned them over to tho village authorities. |
