Show CAR SHORTAGE IS WORST IN 10 YEARS NEW YORK, Feb. 17. The country's car shortage was on February 1 the worst in ten years, with one exception, according to figures made public hero today by the American Railway associa-I associa-I tion. The railways look to more favorable weather and to an increase of transatlantic trans-atlantic cargo space as chief remedial measures, and unless these are early developments, de-velopments, it was stated on behalf of tho association, immediate relief may not be expected. On February 1 the net shortage of freight cars numbered 109,770, as compared com-pared with 62,247 in January 1. On November No-vember 1 the number was 114,908, which I had stood as a record since February. J 1907. Figures covering last Thursday, i February 15, will be made public in a few days, and it is not known yet whether the shortage has decreased or increased since the first of the month. |
