Declaring that the raising of chickens on both a large and small scale is one of the most profitable things a man can do who owns an acre of ground in Utah, and stating furUier that the average production of. a hen in Utah is eighty-four eighty-four eggs a year, against a possible sixty in any other state in the union, Byron Alder, from the Agricultural college col-lege of Utah, made a most interesting address on chicken raising beforo a meeting of the owners of Val Verda at the Commercial club Friday evening of this week. Besides the Val Verda owners present there were many others in attendance who were interested in the beautifuJ tract of acre homesites seven miles north of Salt Lake on the Centerville car line, being developed by the Bettilvon Home Builders company of Salt Lake. Mr. Alder, who has charge of the poultry poul-try department of the Utah Agricultural college at Logan, and who was sent to Salt Lake by tho authorities of the college col-lege for the special purpose of addressing address-ing the Val Verda owners and others interested in-terested at the Commercial club Friday evening, delivered one of the most instructive in-structive and interesting addresses on chicken raising ever heard in the state. He handled his subject in a masterly manner, and during the two and a half hours of his talk he held an audience of over 100 people in wrapt attention and was interrupted time and again with applause. ap-plause. This talk on chicken raising was the second of a series of four talks arranged ' by the Bettilvon Home Builders company com-pany for the "benefit of Val Verda owners own-ers and others interested in the property. prop-erty. Professor Alder went into details regarding re-garding the proper food for chickens, suitable chicken houses, ventilation, how to preserve the eggs and in fact brought out every detail of the industry. He emphasized the fact that every proper food for chickens can be raised right here in the state. The next address will be on "Irriga-tion'at "Irriga-tion'at Val Verda," on March 2 at the Commercial club. |
