Show ENGINEERS ASK FOR ADVANCE IN WAGES Local No. 354 of hoistinft and portable porta-ble engineers of Salt Lake City are askin? fr a increase of 20 per cent in wages, to take effect the first of May. The engineers say that iD the past year the rontractors have been more "exacting in their demands for comyif'tcnt and experienced engineers in all lines of construction -work to operate oper-ate machinery, and have made more culls for that class of men than ever .before. For this reason the engineers' j union has been compelled to raise the initiation fee and make the examinations examina-tions of candidates more strict and exacting ex-acting alonfj practical as well as technical tech-nical lines, in order that the very best men possible in this class of labor may be obtained by .the employer for whatever what-ever class of work he may have, from a small pump to a derrick setting structural struc-tural steel, or dredging machinery. |
