Show MOLASSES NOW BEING USED AS MOTOR FUEL There has been organized in Natal, South Africa, a company under the title of South African Natalite Motor Spirit company, says a consular report. It has a capital of 75.000. or $375,000, and It is expected to build a complete plant, Including In-cluding all the necessary buildings required re-quired to make in the aggregate 2,000,000 gallons of natalite per annum, and to do this at the rate of WOO gallons per clay. The recently rising prices of sasoline are doubtless what hare led to these efforts to make a distillate at a sufficiently low cost to become a direct competitor of gasoline. , ... Experiments were made m Natal with a nventv-two-horsepower car, weignlng some SCO" pounds. The car vas tested over several routes, the total distance covered being slightly more than oOO miles. The roads were said to have been heavy during two days and fine during the rest of the time. In this case the amount of this new motor fluid or spirit was 30.59 gallons, or an average of 16.4 miles per -.llon, or 2!.2 ton-miles per e-allon. Tho engine on all occasions started start-ed easily, whether coll or warm. The valve caps and valve heads were found to be very clean after the trial. The rest ot the engine was not dismantled. |
