Show INDIGNATION AROUSED By FACTORY PERMIT Residents in Vicinity of Trianon Park Enter Protest Against. What They Consider a Defilement. VERSAILLES, France, Feb. 17 Permission given by the minister of commerce to erect a" fertiliser factory in the immediate vicinity ot the Grand Trianon has resulted in indignant pro-; tests, not only on the part of residents1 of the town, but tho?e of adjacent com-j munities and of Paris. Trianon park is the favorite promenade of Parisians and people of Versailles, and has attracted visitors from all tho world. Attention is called to the large number of tourists that will undoubtedly come to visit A'er-sailles A'er-sailles after the war, and the suggestion is made that thev should not carry awav with them a souvenir in the form of a disagreeable odor. The company, however, how-ever, announces they have taken all precautions pre-cautions against odors and smoke, and dust as well. One of the spots nearest, the proposed establishment is the Hamlet in the garden gar-den of the Petit Trianon, laid out for Marie Antoinette, and where women in the court enjoyed the idyllic life in vogue at that time. Twenty communes near Versailles protested pro-tested when the project first became known, and authorization was refused the company on the ground that the public pub-lic health "might be endangered. The company, however, submitted the matter to higher authority, and its request was finallv granted. Xow renewed protests are coming from all quarters, with de-I de-I mands that the company's permit be revoked. |
