Show SALT LAKE COMPANY TO MANUFACTURE AUTOS Local Product, to Be Seen Here Within Ninety Days, Says C. A. Cawley, Originator, and Designer of Car. WITHIN ninety days the people of Salt Lake will have the pleasure of seeing on its streets an automobile which is manufactured locally and! backed by Salt Lake business men. This was the announcement made yesterday by C. A. Cawley, originator and designer of the car which will claim Salt Lake as its home. Tha car itself, which will be within the $1000 class, will be of standard design, standard stand-ard manufacture and, according to Mr. Cawley, of real standard efficiency. Mr. Cawley, who hails from the home of motor vehicles, Detroit, Mich., came to Salt Lake last December especially to study tie- needs of the automobile people of the intermountain country. Special notice' was taken of every detail that would be needed in a machine to suit the territory from every standpoint. CAR IS DESIGNED IN DETROIT. With this valuable information, Mr. Cawley went back to Detroit and designed de-signed the car that the company will build in Salt Lake. He then arranged for local financial backing, which was forthcoming quickly, and is now ready to begin turning out cars at a rapid rate. Material put into the car here will far outclass material that can be used in the east at the same prices, Mr. Cawley said. This is due to the fact that freight rates of finished cars are much higher than on raw materials and unassembled un-assembled parts. For $985, Mr. Cawley said, the people of Salt Lake will be enabled to purchase a high-class machine, and, in addition, give the state the benefit of the manufacture of the product here. WILL BE A WESTERN PRODUCT. The car will be a strictly western product and, as such, the company will allow the public to name it. The machine will be a four-cylinder, forty-one-horsepower car of beautiful design and finish and the parts will be standard, so that replacement may be made with little difficulty. While the manufacture at first will be confined to the five-passenger model, within a year, Mr. Cawley said, the local company also will turn out a truck and four-passenger or clover leaf roadster. The original model of the new car will be on display in the Newhouse hotel lobby, beginning Tuesday. The public is invited to inspect and pass judgment on the first car to be built in Salt Lake. |
