Show Operate WITHOUT 'PAIN Upon Animals RECENTLY Dr. George W. Little of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in New York City has found a means by which animals may be operated upon without rain. Before Be-fore this local anaesthesia had been given to the animals, but it was not conducive to the best results re-sults in the case of serious operations opera-tions any more than it would be for human beings. Dr. Little gives the animals over which he works an an-- an-- aesthetic of nitrous oxide, and oxygen. This renders the operation opera-tion painless, and will not affect the animal's heart nor cause it to suffer from any shock. . A little machine is employed for giving out the gases. It consists con-sists of two cylinders, one of the nitrous oxide and the other of the oxygen. The cylinders are connected with two bags by tubes with the respective gases. The outlet out-let of each bag is connected with a "mouth" Putting a dog to sleep before an operation. piece which is attached to the animal's nose. The proportions of the gas employed is regulated reg-ulated by valves. The same gas anaesthesia is often employed In dental surgery. |
