Show PASTRY SPURNED BY GUSTAVE OF SWEDEN Women of Eoyal Tennis Olub Mildly Rebuked Because of Waste Whan Flour Is Scares. STOCKHOLM, March 17. The ladies of the Eoyal Tennis club recently gave a reception at their ciub house. One of the expected guests -was King Gus-tave, Gus-tave, and for this reason the ladies made great efforts to lay in a rich supply of cakes of all kinds, despite the scanty flour and bread rations. When the monarch arrived he found the table loaded with the choicest pastry and to the consternation of his hostesses be expressed his displeasure at such waste and extravagance in the present hard times. After lecturing the ladies mildly, the king pulled a small package from his pocket, and, unwrapping it, stated that he had brought his own bread. Then he quietly took his cup of tea and munched his two slices of white bread. The mountains of cake on the table remained almost untouched, because be-cause the appetites of the ladies were spoiled. |
