Show 'UFuLOADED' PISTOL W0UIOSB0I0FTEI Ralph Jettie Is Shot by Clifford Clif-ford Cox, 14, When Children Chil-dren Play "Scare." Balph Clyde Jettie, 10 years old, son of Mrs. Sarah Jettie of 437 West Fifth North street, was shot through the left breast yesterday afternoon by Clifford Cox, 1-1 years old, 6on of J. R. Cox, a railroad man, at 4.,.2 West Fifth North street. The shooting occurred in the sitting room of the Cox home about 4 o'clock. The Jettie boy and his younger-brother were playing with the Cox boy. The latter took the revolver, a 32-caliber weapon belonging to an older brother, from the drawer of the dresser where it was kept. The smaller Jettie boy suggested that Clifford "scare" Ralph. Clifford accordingly aimed the weapon and pulled the trigger, not knowing that the gun was loaded. The ball passed through the body an inch above the heart, piercing the point of the left lung, and lodged somewhere in the back, presumably under the left shoulder blade. Neighbors, attracted by the screams of the children, came in, and telephoned the police. The boy was rushed to St. Mark 's hospital, where Dr. C. E. Openshaw attended him. Dr. Openshaw said last night that the boy had an excellent chance of recovery. recov-ery. An X-ray examination wdll be made today to locate the bullet.- |
