Much attention has been attracted by the activity of former Governor William Wil-liam Spry in the oil business. As soon as it was announced that ho was interested inter-ested in the work of the Montana-Wyoming Oil company, operating the Klk Easin, of which company he is president, presi-dent, the governor received requests from contractors and drillers from Oklahoma Ok-lahoma and Texas asking for specifications specifica-tions for well drilling. E. T. Merritt, who is interested in the Oklahoma and Texas fields, has asked Governor Spry and the Montana-Wyoming Montana-Wyoming Oil company to look over some new ground in Texas that may lie leased on regular royalty, and if interested in-terested will be glad to male a deal that will be of mutual benefit to both . parties. Carstensen states in ! response to numerous inquiries that he ! expects to have a producing well in op- I eration within the next five months. j The storms of the past week have in- terrnpted operations in the new fields : on the boundary between Montana and 1 Wyoming. S. F. There was received .yesterday word ! that a new well has come in in the fa- metis Elk basin dome. This makes a total in this district of forty-three producing pro-ducing wells. View of Secretary. In discussing' the proposition Secretary Secre-tary Carstensen last night said: By the inquiries received from the investors it seems that all eyes are pointed to the oil industry in Wyoming and Montana that is to be developed this year. Whether the country is at peace or war more oil is needed for industrial develop- j ment as well as for national defense 1 purposes. The surplus of tiie oil j supply is being depleted rapidly, ac- j cording to the best and most relia- ble obtainable information. The richness of the Elk basin field is best indicated by the fact that the Illinois pipe line is going to build two new pipe lines to take care of the great production assured as-sured from this district. |
