Show ROMANCE UNCOVERED IN ARREST ON COAST Max Shear Alleged to Have Used Bad Check Money to Pay Hotel Bill in Ogden. LOS ANGELES, March 17. Instead of enjoying the performance at a local theater, accompanied by pretty Miss Leta Jacobson of Logan, Utali, Max ' Shear, alias J. P. Morse, said to be j wanted in Ogden on a forgery charge, i spent the night in the county jail ana today awaited extradition to the eastern citv. Shear was arrested early today by Deputy Sheriffs Fox and Nolan as he was walking along Broadway with Miss Jacobson. The alleged fugitive from Ogden strenuously protested that there was some mistake and put up a sharp struggle when the officers started to take him away. Miss Jacobson was taken to her home by the officers when her escort had been locked up. The officers claim that Shear forged the name of Ralph Phillips to a check for $32.50 on the National Copper bank of Salt Lake city and used the paper to pay a hotel bill at Ogden. A romance involving Shear and Miss Jacobson has been uncovered, according to Fox and Nolan. The officers declare de-clare the girl's mother, Mrs. Emma Jacobson, brought her daughter to Los Angeles from their home in Logan, Utah, to separate the j-oung couple. Shear located them, it is said, and came on to this city. Meanwhile Mrs. Jacob-sou Jacob-sou had returned to Utah, leaviug her daughter here. Shear is a traveling salesman for a large wholesale jewelry firm of Chicago. |
