Show II EAGER TO WORK Inclement Weather Prevents Pre-vents Farmers From Outdoor Out-door Track Practice. Outdoor track work at (Irmiito hitfh school will bein as soon as the weather permits. Already a largo squad of athletes ath-letes arc starting work in the gymnasium gymna-sium and are in good condition to start the strenuous outdoor routine. Coach Yid Ashtun has hern making many plans in regard to track work whereby all the boys in the school will be given a chance to compete in their favored events as well as other contests in which they are not so talented. Group athletics, which were inaugurated inaugurat-ed during the basketball season, will bo in vogue this spring and many good athletes ath-letes are expected to be developed. It l? fable a league will be organized -vnii the I,. D. S. university, G ranite, Murray and Jordan represented. Contests are being held every day in tlie following events: Running broad jump, standing broad jump, running high -ijump, standing high jump, pole climb, sprints, chinning, boxing, wrestling and throwing the basketball. The record of each boy is kept and points awarded in each event. At the end of the meet the boy making the greatest number of credits wilt be declared winner of the all around championship. A class track meet is also planned for the near future and the school representatives repre-sentatives in the various events will be chosen at this time. Among the men who are expected to try out for the track team are: Buehner, Barker, Boyce. Kiepe, Vre, Perry, Yotinn. Love, Stevenson, Jensen, Bennion, Ben-nion, Wilson, Taylor, Neuensehwander, Mans, Miller, Johnson, Hopfenbeek, Simmons, YVeiler, Ashton, Hart, Judd, Richards, Harrington. McGhic, Hans-kenecht Hans-kenecht and 1 . Young. Besides the veterans are many new men and but little lit-tle is known of their ability. Bennion is a promising man for the 00-yard dash and Young is expected to do well in the hammer, shot and discus. . Buehner is already working out on his long suit, the high jump, and expects to go pretty high this year. Prospects are bright for a good base-; ball nine this year. With Weiler on the mound. Young on first. Maus behind the ' bat, Hauskenecht at short and Bennion ! on second and Barker on third and also behind the bat. the coach has high hopes for a winning team. These men are all experienced and played good ball last year, ewbold appears to he a strong contender for a pitcher 's position. |
