Show OAKS CLEAN UP WITH CALIFORNIA VARSITY Special to The Tribune. SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., March 17 The Oaks made a clean sweep of their series with the California varsity this afternoon when they captured the last game, 9 to 4. The game was a good exhibition of baseball np to the fifth inning, when the collego team took out Dimock, who was pitching excellent ball, and replaced him with Hill. The varsity team seemed to go to pieces with the change and thereafter were very ragged in their fielding. The Oaks were the first to score, when in the first inning with two down l.aue lioubled to center and scored from second on Smith 's fumble of Dimock Di-mock 's throw. The Bears came back in the first and scored two when Star-bird Star-bird and Adair "walked and scored on Kohwer's long single. The score was evened up in the fourth wheu Murphy walked, stole secoDd and came home on bheehau's two-bagger. The coast leaguers scored another in the fifth, two in the seventh, one in the eighth and three in the ninth. The Blue and Gold team added two more to their score in the eighth. Tho game -was featureless except for the heavy hitting of Mensur and Lane of the Oakland team and liay Rohwer for the California team. |
