Show SALT LAKE MEETING TO I MM Delegates From Western States Will Convene During August. S. E. Brady of Pocatello Now Here to Arrange Congress Details. To prevent blocking reclamation bills and to bring about their quick passage through organization and united action, delegates from Utah, Washington, Oregon, Ore-gon, California, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Wy-oming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada will meet in Salt Lake'-the second week of August, according to S. E. Brady of Pocatello, president of the Idaho Reclamation association. Mr. Brady is in Salt Lake arranging for the meeting. Governors of all western states have promised to cooperate by sending dele- gates, Mr. Brady said. "Central and eastern states are fighting the passage of reclamation bills because the greater part of the money will, of necessity, be spent in western states where there are opportunities oppor-tunities for land development," he said. "Quick and united action is necessary nec-essary to combat these efforts." Governors Pledge Aid. Governors of the various states who will meet here for their annual convention conven-tion August IS will be asked to use their influence in supporting the position posi-tion of the western states, Mr. Brady declared. It is planned to show the executives ex-ecutives the immense possibilities of reclamation here. If possible, they will be shown the important results which have followed the reclamation of western west-ern lands. "Many easterners believe the west is a desert land," Mr. Brady declared. "Efforts will be made to correct this impression. ' ' Soldiers now are locating on dry land, nine-tenths of which will never be reclaimed, re-claimed, and quick action by congress would eliminate a waste of money and tend to check the growth of radicalism, according to Mr.. Brady. , All West Represented. That four or five delegates from each western state will be present at tho meeting is the opinion of Mr. Brady. Many representatives of the state governments and men interested in reclamation are expected to attend. Speaking of the fight boing made in the eastern and central states against spending money for reclamation projects proj-ects in the west, Mr. Brady said that in addition to benefits to eastern soldiers who tako up farms, cultivation of the lands would lower the cost of living and bring decreased taxation because of greater production. |
