In one transaction alone real estate men in a southern state engaged in assisting- the government to secure land for military purposes saved the war depart- j ment more than $550,000, according to j V. A. Bettilyon, president of the Bettllyon I Home Builders company, who has Just j returned with Mrs. Bettilyon from an extended ex-tended trip east. Details of the incident were narrated , at the national real estate convention, which was held at Atlantic City, June 25 to 28, and which w:fl the principal object ob-ject of Mr. Bettllyon's trip east. The Kovernment was first asked more than S?00, 000 for the land, hut later, through the energetic and patriotic action of the realtors, the price was reduced to ?350,-0O0. ?350,-0O0. Several other striking examples of useful service rendered by the realtors during the war were made public at the convent Ion. Present at the big meeting were hundreds hun-dreds of the largest real estate dealers in the con try. It was their unanimous opinion, Mr. Bettllyon said, that the movement to encourace building as rapidly rap-idly as possible should be vigorously pushed. There is no chance that the price of materials will be lowered, and consequently there is nothing to lose and a great deal to gain by building at once, he asserted, i Prosperity reigns throughout the east and middle west, Mr. Bettilyon reports.
