III., arrived m New "iork re-cenily re-cenily from uermany, where she had been held a prisoner. Miss Gcntz went to Germany Ger-many before the war and while there married mar-ried Furhman, a German artist. When the war broke out, Mrs. Furhman Furh-man took up war work, and was appointed appoint-ed to a post censoring the mail of allied soldiers. While in this position she aided the allied soldiers in many little ways. When the United States entered the war. differences in the Furhman household led Mrs. Furhman to attempt to secure a divorce. di-vorce. Then her troubles began. Slie later tried to pet out of Germany, was arrested and jailed. She spent two months in a German military mil-itary prison, later being thrown into a woman's penitentiary, where she spent flvo months at hard labor. She was later charged with being an American spy and put through the form of a trial without counsel or witnesses, and sentenced to one year. She was freed when the armistice armi-stice was signed. Mrs. Furhman is now in New York visiting her sister. |
