Show ! ; Belief Shattered That U. S. Soldier Gets Highest Pay WASHINGTON, July 16. Popular belief that the American soldier ia higher paid than that of any other country Is erroneous, according accord-ing to an official table issued today by the general staff. This shows tho three British dominions Australia, Aus-tralia, Now Zealand and Canada allow materially higher pay for each grado than does tho United States. For instance ill the Australian army a corporal earns $72.00 per month, as compared to 536 in the American army. The other extreme is shown In the cases of France, Japan and Italy, where the private receives 81.50, $0.78 and $0.58 per month respectively, against the $30 paid the American doughboy. |
