Show Chicago Bank Is Ready for Robbers; Turned Into Fort (Chicago Tribune Special Service.) CHICAGO, July 16. The fortified bank has made Its appearance in one of the districts of Chicago. As a precaution against robbers, who made frequent attacks upon outlying institutions, the Pullman Trust and Savings bank has been equipped like a modern fort. This innovation is due to tho initiative in-itiative of Lieutenant Donald R. Bryant, cashier, who served in Trance in a machine gun battalion of tho United States army. It was his experience in the war that gave him the idea of meeting bank robbers rob-bers as the Germans were met on the battlefield with a hail of shot and shell. The fort consists of a steel cage or tank with loopholes, in which arcs stationed expert marksmen arnied with high power rifles. They have a commanding view both of the interior and tho exterior of the bank. |
