Show MORMON BATTALION MONUMENT DISCUSSED Plans for the campaign to raise the $100,000 necossary to erect a Mormon battalion bat-talion monument and to receive a similar appropriation from the legislature was the central theme of the meeting ofthc Sons and Daughters of the Mormon battalion bat-talion held at the home of Dr. Joseph H. Grant last night. The speakers were B. H. Roberts, chairman of the monument committee, who outlined briefly the work the Mormon Mor-mon battalion had played in the nation's history. Professor Levi Edgar Young also spoke, paying glowing tribute to the Mormon battalion and relating historical incidents. inci-dents. Former Mayor Samuel H. Park, a ' member of the monument committee, gave a report of the committee's recent trip to Chicago, where the model for the proposed monument was inspected. Mrs. Maybelle Thurman Davis and others Interested In-terested in the movement were speakers. Musical selections consisted of solos by Charles R. Pike and Ray Russell, an Instrumental In-strumental selection by the Grant trio and community singing. A social followed fol-lowed the meeting, junior members of the organization serving refreshments. |
