Walter Fitch, Jr., who has a contract for sinking the new shaft for tho Chief Consolidated Mining company, says evorythinfj is in readiness and work will start today. This now shaft is located ut Homanavillo and will bo used for the development of tho now territory which tho mining company acquired a short time apo. It is to bo a double compartment shaft and tho present plans call for sending it down several hundred feet hefore cutting out for a station. .An electric hoist will bo used on this shaft and tho Chief Consolidated company com-pany has also purchased another new compressor, which is electrically driven. Splendid progress is being mado sinking this shaft, this being the pre- : liminnry step in the extensive campaign 1 of work which has boon planned for the development of this ground at much greater depth. Alex Caldwell of tho Sharp property in Tooele county, states that during the past two months six carloads of ore have been forwarded to the market. This ore carries lead ami silvor values, and while it ennnot bo considered as a high- f;rade product, there is a nice profit to ie made in handling It at this time. Mr. Caldwell has been operating in that section for a number or years, during which time ho ha spent a lot of money in development work. In addition to the Sharp mine, Mr. Caldwell has taken a lease on tho Snltnnn ground in the same section, dividing his force between the two properties. |
