Preparations for naming delegates to the several conventions conven-tions during the summer and early fall , were made by the Democratic organizations organiza-tions of Weber county today when the central committee held a meeting in Judge N. J. Harris's courtroom in the county building at the call of S, S. Smith, chairman. The principal business busi-ness of the meeting was the selection of Saturday afternoon, August 5, as the dato tor a county convention at which delegates will be selected to the etute convention. A dato was not fixed for the district primaries. ' It was also decided to perfect the j central organization in preparation for A the coming campaign. Chairman Smith announced his selections for the execu- f tive committee, and these were approved by the committeemen. The executive committee, in addition to Chairman Smith, 8. P. Dobbs, secretary, and Walter Wal-ter N. Parr, treasurer, will include W. D. Ellis, Wade M. Johnson and R. H. Argubright, representing Ogden city; Thomas A. Shreeves. vice chairman Thomas Powles of Kanesville and W. H. Lowder of Harrisville. As mapped out at today's meeting the , executive committee will work in collie coll-ie junction with an advisory committee, which will be selected later. L. J. Fowler was selected se-lected to succeed James Beus in Hooper Hoop-er district No. 2. A. E. Pratt has resigned re-signed as committeeman in district No. 3 of Ogden city, but this vacancy was not filled today. In preparation for the fall campaign each district committeeman committee-man has been instructed to arrange for the selection of a vice chairman, secretary secre-tary and treasurer of each district or-t or-t . ganization. The suggestion of Secretary Dobbs that the same set of delegates serve at the state, congressional and judicial conventions was accepted by the central cen-tral committeemen as a means of elim-inating elim-inating a long Beries of district primaries. pri-maries. When the Democratic voters attend primaries in advance of the Au- gust 5 convention it will be made plain that the delegates selected at such convention con-vention will serve at the state, congressional con-gressional and judicial conventions. It will also be optional with the voters whether the delegates they select to the August 5 convention shall subsequently represent them at the county nominating nominat-ing convention. Chairman Smith and Secretary Dobbs Kwere authorized to determine the apportionment ap-portionment of delegates for the August 5 convention and issue the official call , for both the primaries and convention. Delegates will bo selected to represent Weber county in the state convention, which will be held in this city probably on August 15 or August IS', these being be-ing the dates on which the Alhambra theater may be obtained. When the business of the meeting had been disposed of Chairman Smith, who was one of the Utah delegates to the national convention, gave the central committeemen a brief summary of the proceedings at the St. Louis convention. |
