Show CLAIM OF ATTORNEY RESULTS IN INQUIRY SAN FRANCISCO, July 8. The California Cal-ifornia railroad commission began an investigation to ascertain why reorganization reorgan-ization of the Western Pacific railway should cost $2,500,000, of which $402,-500 $402,-500 is called for in cash. The investigation investi-gation is incidental to a hearing before the commission for its approval of a proposed bond issue of $20,000,000 and stock issues of $75,000,000 by the Western West-ern Pacific railroad company, which bid in the road ten days ago for $18,000,000 after it had been in receivers' hands since March, 1915. The commission 's attention was attracted at-tracted first to the claim of John S. Partridge for $172,000 for legal services to the receivers, Warren Olney, Jr., and Prank G. Drum. John P. Bowie, attorney at-torney for the reorganization committee, commit-tee, testified that the whole legal staff of the Western Pacific for the same period more than a year ago had cost only $2500. |
