Show FRENCH FOLLOW. .THE EXAMPLE OF GREAT BRITAIN PARTS, July 8, 1 a. m. The French government, following the example of Great Britain, has abandoned the declaration dec-laration of London as an interpretation interpreta-tion of maritime international law. A docreo to thnt effect appears in this morning's official journal. A memorandum accompanying the decree de-cree says that the rules of 'the London declaration were adopted bv the entente allies at tho beginning ot the war as being the most expedient, hut that experience ex-perience has shown that they did not give the results expected either in securing se-curing to belligerents a full exerciso of . rights or affording adequate guarantees to neutrals. Consequently, the memo-raifdum memo-raifdum continues, circumstances obliged the allies to modify the rules of the declaration. dec-laration. But those successive modifications modifica-tions lead to fnlso interpretations of the nllies ' motives, therefore they decided j it were better ta return to the original rules of international law as generally accepted. In so doing, tho memorandum con cludes, the allies declare solemnly they I will continue to observe the principles rigidly, respecting lives anil property of neutrals and being ready to make compensation com-pensation for any unjustifiable- damage caused to a bona" fide merchant. |
