Show LICENSE TUX TOTAL REACHKM3.9BB.75 Funds Derived Are to Be Expended on Building Better Roads. A total of $83,968.75 has been paid into the office of tho secretary of state for motor vehicle licenses in the half year ending June 30, 1916. Under the law the money must be used for road construction, the division to be impartial among; the twenty-eight counties of the state. Though the centers of population have contributed most heavily to the fund because of tho greater number of motor vehicles maintained in them, the sparsely settled counties will be entitled en-titled to as much of tho fund for road construction purposes as the more densely populated counties. In the past few months many license fees have been collected from owners of motor vehicles in the outlying counties. coun-ties. Collections have been accefierated by tho serving of notice by county sheriffs on automobile owners who failed to comply promptly with the requirement re-quirement to register. Any tendency on the part of the owners of cars in the outlying counties coun-ties to evade the payment bf the tax has been lessened by a realization on their part that the "distribution of the fund resulting from the tax is to be made according to state road needs rather than according to population. At the close of the half year a total of 10,769 automobiles and 1217 motorcycles motor-cycles had been registered at the oil'iee o"f the secretary of state, while 796 chauffeurs had been licensed. The numbor of automobiles has now increased in-creased to 11,204. |
