Show OVERLAND COMPANY TO ENTERTAIN IN Eighteen Thousand Employees Em-ployees to Be Guests of Management. What is claimed to be the largest circus cir-cus party on record will take place in Toledo this summer when the Willys-Overland Willys-Overland company will act as host to its 18,000 employees lor six performances perform-ances of the big ijarnum & Bailey show, according to information just received by the Browning Auto & Supply company, com-pany, local Overland distributor. This big tented amusement will be brought to Toledo on July 27, 28 and 29 for six performances, one each afternoon after-noon and evening. Each of the Overland Over-land employees will be given three tickets and "six carfares for himself and family. It 'is estimated that 60,000 or more will see this show not only the main attractions, but the sideshow attractions attrac-tions as well, as everything will be free to the employees and their families. In 1910 the Willys-Overland company gave its first treat to its employees a half holiday to a ball game. The ensuing en-suing three years saw the duplication of this celebration. For several seasons the opening day of Toledo's baseball season was "Overland day." In 1914 there was no league baseball in Toledo. But the fun of the Overland Over-land employees was not spoiled. On the contrary they were treated to a big I league contest when the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Athletics, the latter lat-ter th-3n world's champioust were brought to Toledo for an exhibition battle. bat-tle. In 1915 the New York Giants and the Detroit Tigers were brought to Toledo. To-ledo. In this way the Overland employees em-ployees have had a chance to see " Christy'' Chris-ty'' Mathewsoa. Ty Cobb, Eddie Collins, Frank Baker, Roger Bresnahan, Chief Bender. Eddie Plank and numerous other baseball celebrities as guests of their employers. But Swayne field no longer can seat the 17,300 employees of the Overland. The factory has grown too large for one ' ' Overland day. ' ' ! This year the celebration of "Overland "Over-land day" will be extended over three days and instead of a ball game the attraction at-traction will be a real, genuine circus, brought here for the benefit of the work-ingmen work-ingmen and their families. The Willvs-Overlanrl company has a reputation for doing things on a grand scale, no matter whether the matter in hand is production of automobiles or entertainment en-tertainment of its employees. The coming com-ing event, therefore, is in keeping with its policy of doing big things in a big way. |
