Ted Johntion, western champion, and Al VY'ardt-u, West high school track captain, cap-tain, will run under tho gym colors, while Patsy Coyne will represent the Holy Croes Lyceum of Jew York. The reeord for the distaoce, which ia 29:ol, according to the boys, wiil be shattered when they meet to lower the mark. The throe stara have been, training at Liberty Lib-erty park for tho past two weeks and have been doing tho distance under twenty-eight, nuiiutps. Johnson, who will represent Utah at the national games at Newark next fall, ia expected to cop the eveut as his vast experience is of a gren t advantage to him. Ho will find the going hard, though, as both Warden and Coyne are training hard and expect to give the veteran a hard battle. Covne, who is a star at the distance gnnie, is also a veteran, while Warden is a youngster. Coyne will have competed in 500 distance dis-tance events when tho race 13 pulled oif, and for that reason is working hard to win. He is training with the idea of crossing the tape first. Warden i? also rounding into shape and is expected to run with his old-time class. Th course 'will be measured during the coining week so that if a record is established the mark will stand.1 The officials for the event will be selected from the local A. A. V. representatives. |
