Show IF wo conjugate the verb "leave" in all its moods and tenses leaves, is leaving, left, has left, will leave, etc. we get the irlea of the state of Salt Lake society at present. The California Califor-nia beaches are luring most of the travelers, but a few are braving the heat of tho east and listening to the siren call of Chicago and New York. We wonder what of those who are to remain behind, either from choice or necessity. Are there no diversions for them? The answer is most decidedly decided-ly an affirmative one. For those who long for tho mountains a motor trip JFl an hour or two will take them from the city 's heat and noise to cool, al-luring al-luring mountain dells, where under cloudless skies and fanned by the refreshing, re-freshing, life-giving mountain breezes they may get the rest and change necessary to spice daily existence. Often small parties of close friends take a basket lunch and spend the day in some of the delightful secluded spots the canyons afford. Others motor to one o the attractive mountain inns for a luncheon or dinner. Sunday and holidays holi-days are the popular days for canyon trips. For those who want the sea, Great Salt Lake is near at hand, offering invigorating in-vigorating salt water bathing to weary urbahites. And then Salt Lake homes, with their well-kept lawns, bright flowers, sheltering shelter-ing trees and spacious verandas, seem J far removed from the city's wilting ; heat. Formal entertainments have largely given way to informal affairs given at the delightful homes of Salt Lake hostesses, where a few friends I ' meet for two or three tables of bridge t or a Kensington. ANOTHER one of the delightful entertainments en-tertainments which Mrs. Edwin F. Holmes is noted for was the dinner presided pre-sided over by that popular hostess last evening at the Country club. The affair was for Miss Adele Blood, the well-. well-. ; known actress, who has been a guest v at the Amelia Palace. Shasta daisies ind filmy gypsophila formed an effective centerpiece for the tea table. The guests numbered eighteen. The party stayed for the club dance in the evening. JL-s. Holmes was also hostess at a reception re-ception given Friday at the Amelia Palace, Pal-ace, which was one of the most boauti-ful boauti-ful functions given recently in Salt Lake society. The attractive rooms of the famous fa-mous home were decorated with an artistic ar-tistic profusion of gorgeous flowers. I Miss Blood and a number of prominent j socioty matrons assisted Mrs. Holmes in receiving and entertaining the many ' guets who called during the receiving j hours, from. 12 to 2 o 'clock. Miss Adele Blood will leave today to I open an engagement in San Francisco, j She will probably return about the mid- die of next month to spend a couple of weeks with Colonel and Mrs. Holmes. 1 THAT Salt Lake matrons are ever ; genorous with their efforts in sweet charity's cause was demonstrated again i last night when the Salt Lake Civic club gavo a garden party on the McDon-I McDon-I aid roof garden for the benefit of the ! children 's playgrounds in the city parks. J The affair was a most decided success, i b.ih socially and financially. The beautiful roof garden, with its profusion of flowers, forns and its ro- freshing breezes, made a delightful set-' set-' ting for tho programme of music and fancy dancing which embodied the evening even-ing 's entertainment. Ice cream and con- fections were sold in prettily arranged booths by a group of young girls. Tho programmo for tho fete was as follows: Brass quartette from tho high school band, consisting of Karold James, Karl Effinger, .Douglas Gamette and Lloyd Pcrigo; dauco solo, Miss Ruth Levering; instrumental trio, Miss Marie Howard, violin; Miss Helen Howard, cello, and Mrs. Faith Curl Maroney, piane; folk dance, four little girls; male fpiartctte, Messrs. Moncarr, Christiansen, Christian-sen, Burt and De llaan; vocal solo, Miss Gernldine Blackham: ballet of the four seasons. Miss Grace Davis and Miss Miranda Mi-randa Mattson: vocal solo, Miss Margaret Mar-garet Pusenhury, accompanied by Miss Florence Xewcll of Provo; piano solo. Miss Ruth Senior; brass quartette, from high school band. The entertainment committee of the c1 deserves much credit for arranging the successful affair. The committee includes in-cludes Mrs. .1. W.
