courthouse many chanres have taken place for the better Th Clerks vault which had become altogether alto-gether too small for the I rapidlyin creasing business of the office has been greatly enlarged The roof was taken out and the side walls extended upward up-ward about twelve feet permitting tho addition of a second story thus noarh doubling the capacity of the vault and new fixtures put in The Sheriffs office of-fice which was formerly on the firs floor has been removed to the basement remofl ment adjoining the jail and occupies very commodious and convenient quarters quar-ters The Treasurer now occupies as fine a feulto of rooms n there are In the building Three rooms on the north side oC the tirst floor hal been thrown together remodeled and nicely furnished fur-nished Judge Rolapp also occupies almost al-most a new home The courtroom has been renovated and repapered the Judges rostrum changed from the west end to the north side of the room and the Jury box from the north side to the position formerly occupied by the JudgeS Judge-S FINANCIAL From n financial standpoint Weber county la I In a most gratifying condi tion On January 1 grlfylng O floating debt amounted to 40000 being the j rincipal and accrued Interest on certain cer-tain promissory notes executed in 1S95 and 1S9C for the purpose of building the puroe bul cing f amous Ogden canyon driveway nnd the addition lo the courthouse and to repair the destruction caused by the llsastrous l fire which destroyed the main building The present board and County Clerk together with Hon L4 B Adams chuirmnn of the preceding board succeeded in getting through the Legislature a bill permitting the county coun-ty to fund its floating debt and in accordance ac-cordance therewith In April last bonds In i tile sum of HOOo were Issued re liiclng the Interest from S per cent on PCI the notes to f per centbonds or i say Ing l to tile county of 1200 per annum Those bonds were disposed of at a premium pre-mium of 2ino In September last Clerk Hollingsworlh acting in behalf of the County Board purchased 40000 of the gen > rallmprovement bonds Issued In 1 IS92 which was also a big saving for t the county as the money was lying Idle In i the sinking fund with no return wIh rtlrn t thereon and besides the Interest on the bonds to maturity was saved The county Is now practally upon a cash basis Heretofore It has been necessary neces-sary for holder of warrants to either cash them at a discount or hold them until the taxes were collected In November No-vember Tho Commissioners however have arranged with the county depository deposi-tory to cash all warrant at face value and hold them until the taxes were collected col-lected and present them for payment whereby the holder > suffers no discount on his claim The county has also been Involved inexpensive in-expensive litigation during the year mOlO particularly durhlt bank and fruittree cases The former action involved in-volved the validity of bank
